Screening in the desert is like coming home

Palm Springs is most likely known as a sunny desert destination for snowbirds, it’s sleek mid-Century homes or it’s easy access to outdoor adventures in the nearby Joshua Tree National Park.

But it’s also a hotbed of cool arts and cultural experiences like musical are and film events.
Our favorite is the American Documentary Film & Animation Festival, (AmDocs). Founded in 2011, AmDocs is recognized as one of the most important festivals for filmmakers. Movie Maker Magazine even calls it one of the five coolest festivals for docs. It’s a place where both big name movie stars (think Oliver Stone) and up-and-comers can show off their latest filmmaking dreams in the same theater).

ANCHOR POINT director Holly Tuckett was one of those stars on the rise in 2018, when she shared her first full-length documentary CHURCH & STATE with AmDocs audiences to great acclaim. That year, Holly and her team (including ANCHOR POINT writer Jennifer Dobner) walked away with a Special Jury Award.

Fast forward to 2021 and Holly is back with ANCHOR POINT.

“It feels like coming home,” Holly says. “I am so happy to be part of the AmDocs family. The festival team does an amazing job and it’s a great place to make connections with other documentary filmmakers.”
